FASHION || Autumn Staples – Fashion

by Charl Pearce

With the crisp rustle of golden hued leaves under foot and seeing your breath before your face first thing in the morning, it’s a sure sign that it’s time to trade your ballerina pumps in for a pair of boots and stock up on thick woolly socks. All signs of bright dresses and floaty maxi skirts have been banished to the confines of underbed storage and in their place a plethora of warm toned chunky knits and fur are offering to hug my body and provide warmth against the October blow.  I rounded up a few of my latest wardrobe staples for autumn.

1. A pair of this seasons hottest boot, the chelsea boot are ideal teamed with a chunky ankle sock to keep your tootsies warm and dry when the rain is pouring.  These tan ones from Primark (which I picked up for a bargain £10) are flat which ensures there will be no slipping on wet leaves mishaps.  2. Ah, the winter tote.  As the seasons change I like to change up my handbag (and my purse, and my “on the go” makeup bag – I like to be co ordinated) in favour of the autumn colour wheel.  Deep greens, navys, mustard and oxblood are this years colour picks for me and this Penrose Tote Bag* from Jack Wills is ideal  3.  Forget chunky scarves which itch your neck and make you feel like you’re being strangled, for me it’s all about print scarves.  They add texture and colour to an otherwise dull outfit and they come in a variety of prints – I picked this one up in the sale at Tesco for £5.00 (I also bought the blogger must have tartan scarf from New Look) 4. A black and white striped breton jersey top is a classic wardrobe staple for all year through. Swap your light weight short sleeved one for long sleeves and wear it like uniform. Tucked into a pencil skirt, with jeans, tailored trousers, under a sleeveless dress, for layering up with a fur gilet – mines forever in and out of the wash.

5. A statement necklace is the key to my heart and come winter I’m pairing them with high neck knits to give them more of a fashionable twist. This beautiful art deco style necklace* from Accessories Boutique is my current favourite as I love the mix of muted jewels and sparkle. 6. Nothing says comfy cosy like a good pair of stretch jeggings that will give way to winter warming foods and carbs. These indigo jeggings from Yours Clothing are my favourite as they have small detailing such as the Jean stitching on the waist and bum pockets to give the illusion of real jeans – they’re also zip up which give you a bit more control around the tummy area rather than your average elasticated pull ons.

I’m going to be doing a more detailed autumn beauty post with a run down of what beauty products you need to be packing into your October onwards makeup bag, but two of my most used beauty products have changed with the seasonal times.  Pastel and neon nail shades have given way to neutrals such as the Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Polish in Mauve Along with Essence Special Effects Topper in Twinkling Stars on an accent nail or on every nail if I need some sparkly injection into a dull day. “Berry lips!!” youll heard bloggers screaming from the automatic doors of Boots from now until March, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with “Blackberry”* from Bobbi Brown. This is a little darker and vampy-er than I would usually go for but I love the contrast between super pale skin and a deep plum shade.
