The Cut Out Collar

Simply Be’s “New In” segment is full of the latest pieces for A/W16. Lace, gothic, floral, chunky knits and an autumnal colour palette have overtaken the pastel chiffon prints and ankle boots and brogues have kicked sandals ballet bumps bye bye.  Sorry guys, but I’m doing a secret cheer on the inside.

A big trend for 2016, cut out detailing is the trend that won’t go away. Cut out on evening / day dresses as well as tops & blouses give a stylish twist and bring a traditional piece right back into 2016 with its cheeky but subtle flesh reveal. Bums AND boobs may be overkill (it’s one or the other, apparently) but a subtle glimpse on the chest, arms or waist is a great way to show some skin but without being OTT.

This cut out collared shirt dress from Simply Be is a more fitted version of your classic shirt style dress. It has more of a fit and flare style owed to the elasticated waist with a 6 button fasten detailing and cut out detailing to the chest and -scalloped lace/embroidered trim.  The full length sleeves are cuffed at the wrist with matching button detailing which gives a tailored look to the sleeves.

Aside from the shape, the thing that really caught my eye about this dress are the bright primary colours in red, blue and yellow with black snakeskin print. After seeing it online I happened upon a plus size babe wearing it at Liverpool Lime Street on the weekend of the Curve Fashion Festival and desperately wanted to try it. There’s nothing I love more than a bold dress for Autumn paired with bare legs and ankle boots (these are from the wide fit collection at Primark) or with some trusty 100 denier when the weather gets a little cooler.

Rich colours? Check. A full sleeve? Check. A skirt which sits above the knee but not TOO short? Check. Classic Autumn detailing? Check.

The perfect bold addition to your Autumn wardrobe.
