If your parents were anything like mine, when it came to summer holidays (or just a glimpse of sunshine) if they didn’t have their hands full with a pushchair, a bucket and spade or an ice cream they were holding a camera and making you pose, give your best toothy smile and say CHEESE.
As I got older I become more averse to being in front of the camera and so the photos of me dwindled, but from the age of 6 months old up until about 11 years old I was a future fashion blogger in the making. There are shoeboxes of photographs of me with my hand on hip, best “cool and serious face” in summer dresses, rara skirts, straw hats, dolly shoes, frilled socks and sandals and a swimming costume accessorised with a rubber ring and big sunglasses, obviously chanelling my inner Jackie O.
Online retailer Fashion World are running #FWTHROWBACK – a competition to celebrate the summer where you can be in with a chance winning £150 every week until the 20th June. All you have to do is post a then and now picture on Twitter using the hashtag #FWTHROWBACK. Dig out your holiday photos of yesteryear, recreate your outfit, your pose, have fun with it and most of all take a nostalgic trip down memory lane whilst looking through them – and potentially win £150 to grab yourself a summer spending spree!
I’d lost count of how many pictures there are of me on the beach, on a pier, crabbing on Llandudno pier, building a sandcastle or with ice cream dribbling down my chin until I went through the family archives to find a picture to find my entry to submit for the Fashion World competition. I did find it amazing how the fashion of the 80’s have come full circle and my mums “mom” jeans and paisley print tops wouldn’t look out of place in the likes of Topshops SS14 collection and I look super #fblogger with my Peter Pan collar and stripe/polka dot clash.
Keep your eye on my Twitter to see my entry! Which picture to choose to recreate though? I have my eye on a spotty rara skirt for my recreation – a girl can never wear too many polkadots.
Don’t forget to tweet @FashionWorld_UK with your entry using the #FWTHROWBACK hashtag to submit your entry!
