Affordable Winter Walks with Bon Prix

My coat hooks at home are already set to bursting point and I could almost hear it groan when yet another coat arrived through the post to make up my coat-drobe for 2016/2016. A winter wardrobe in the Ginger Girl Says is not complete without a disgusting amount of coats for every occasion, in every colour and every texture. This year I’m on my 5th new winter coat and counting and I’m not ashamed. Well maybe a little bit, but I’m not going to let that stop me from giving loving homes to (technically) unwanted outerwear.

This Cocoon Coat from Bon Prix* in khaki is the more tailored of my selection, but due to my hatred of tight fitting coats, I sized up to a size 20 to give this double breasted number an oversized Geography Teacher vibe (minus the elbow pads) and I think it looks just the right amount of slouchy when worn unbuttoned. The texture of this coat is similar to boucle (which I find is a nightmare for catching on handbags and necklace and so on!), its earthy colour lends itself perfectly to team different colours and textures to create a layered look.

I’ve been throwing this coat on over pretty much everything. Jeans and a plain tshirt? Check. Denim shorts, oversized jumper and pumps? You got it.

On this particular day I wore the coat for work over this beautiful cold shoulder scarf print dress* from plus size clothing brand Pink Clove. This dress quite simply brightens up a cold winters day with its burnt orange, ochre and blue print and although the cold shoulder detail make it exactly that at the end of November (cold, geddit?) I love it paired with the standard opaques and my suede over the knee boots* from Simply Be which I am wearing to death.

Because rain and winter weather general is my hairs cryptonite, I tend to finish off most outfits November onwards with a hat to combat festive looking frizz, ain’t nobody got time for bouffants. This black faux fur number I finished the outfit off with was an impulse purchase from Primark a few years ago. At the time it cost about £5 but it has more than paid for itself with all the cool points its given me via looking like a Russian Spy or the wife of Vladimir Putin.
