MAC Chilli Matte Lipstick – Review

A little girl with curly ginger hair once sang that you’re never fully dressed without a smile. That little girl was orphan Annie, and I would spend many hours in my childhood hugging my aunties dog, calling him Sandy (his name was Bobby) and belting out all of songs from the film much to the dismay of anybody who was in a earshot.Fast forward a good few years, and I’d change those lyrics to…

“you’re never fully dressed without a red lip

When I think red lips I think of all the old school Hollywood sirens, and when paired with simple black eyeliner, the perfect red lipstick can add an instant touch of glamour.

I searched high and low for my perfect red lipstick. As much as I love the look, the whole maintenance and practicality is a nightmare, they smudge, they’re nowhere near transfer proof, they need constant re application to keep the look dramatic… need a go on? Some of the red lipsticks I’ve tried have been far too creamy/glossy and within minutes of application I’d look like The Joker.

My perfect red lip is MAC’s “Chili”

This was one of my first ever purchases from MAC and it was well worth the price tag as its by far the most favourite lipstick I own. Its instant glamour in bullet form. What I love about this is the consistency, as with all MAC lipsticks its extremely creamy and so easy to apply, its super matte on the lips and therefore stays put for hours with minimal reapplication but it doesn’t dry out my lips like some brands.

This isn’t your usual bright red, pillarbox red colour, I wanted a red with no blue tones in it and this absolutely fits the bill (if you’re looking for that you want MAC’s Russian Red.) This is much more of an orangey/brick red tone and to me is the most perfect autumn red with a slightly vintage feel.

You can buy Chili here.
