What To Wear on Romantic Winter Date Nights

by Charl Pearce

We all love date night – the opportunity to get dressed up and spend some time with your favourite person. Half the fun is getting glammed up and picking out the perfect outfit, so you want to wear something you love with the one you love.

It’s not always the easiest thing to achieve in the winter months, when your favourite outfit is quite often a thermal onesie and a bobble hat. Date night style that looks like you’ve made just the right amount of effort is the goal, with an outfit that gives you an extra sparkle but is warm and comfortable enough for the season. The options are endless – from skinny jeans and a fitted shirt to a smart pencil skirt with peplum top, it’s no wonder so many of us rush to the shops in a final attempt to find the perfect outfit.

The winner for me however has always been a dress. Never out of style and with the added bonus of being a complete outfit, it shows that you’ve put some thought into your look and can be dressed up or down depending on your date location. Match with your favourite statement necklace to finish off the outfit.

My one rule is to stick to styles and shapes that you know work for you – date night probably isn’t the best time to risk a new look in case you end up just feeling uncomfortable. You might want to take inspiration from celebrities’ date night wardrobes, or you could go for a classic combination – think a little black dress paired with simple court shoes or a jumper dress with long boots.

1 | First up is the black velvet shirt number from the range of dresses from Tu. Paired with opaque tights and killer heels, this dress will look fantastic while you’re looking dreamily into your date’s eyes while sipping a cocktail in a classy bar. Velvet is the sort of fabric that just shouts romance, setting the tone for your date night perfectly.

2 | This unusual navy midi dress is sure to be flattering on almost every body shape. It features a nice bohemian style that will work well with brown ankle boots and a faux fur coat when it’s particularly chilly outside. Great for daytime dates as well as a romantic trip to the bowling alley, it’s a unique style that is ideally suited to more casual meetings with the one you love.

3 | The second little black number on the list is this gorgeous lace dress, definitely one to consider if you’re heading to a swanky restaurant for a romantic dinner for two. The black creates a nice contrast with the ultra-feminine lace, although you could always take it a step further and rough the look up even more with some chunky ankle boots and a classic leather jacket.
