With the 14th February on the horizon, it’s that time of the year where we choose our big V Day allegiance – to Valentines or not to Valentines…that is the question. If you ARE planning to get your Valentine’s on, you’ll of course be left with the panic of arranging a gift which isn’t cheesetastic (hello Teddybear clutching a heart or heart print silk boxers), too expensive (who are these people who can afford to treat their other half to a holiday for Valentines?) or y’know, lingerie in completely the wrong size. Of course then you have the battle of trying to arrange a table at that little restaurant that you had your first date where the menu has become entirely love themed, the prices hiked up to next to extortionate and you’re told they only have tables available at 4pm.
Valentines Day bitter? Nah. Having a chef for a boyfriend, I’ve resigned my Valentines Day to feasting on homemade pasta with the dogs as my dates and watching reruns of the The Hills on Amazon Prime as he serves up delicious dishes for loved up couples and I’m completely okay with it. No, seriously, I am.
With this Valentines gifting talk in mind, I was recently invited along to a Valentines event with intu Potteries. Joined byfellow bloggers Terri and Sarah to take part in a themed challenge based around the intu giftcards which are the no hassle alternative to dodgy Valentine’s gift (and you get a Yankee Candle gift with every purchase of a Gift Card of £30+). With each of us given a gift card of a different value our aim was to treat a loved one (or ourselves) to a Valentines gift. Would you be surprised to learn that all 3 of us picked to treat OURSELVES rather than a loved one? Sarah picked herself up a £15 gift card, Terri the £35 and yours truly bagged a £50 gift card.
With my Sunday date with the dogs looming, I decided to go for all out pampering… and adult appropriate purchases. Woah now, that doesn’t mean I headed over to Ann Summers, that means that instead of buying purely for myself, I purchased for the home – the true sign of being a grown up. We all know there’s nothing better than getting into a freshly made bed feeling pampered to the nines and smelling like a goddess, so the first purchase of my spree was Lush where I picked up the Comforter Bubble Bar, Bath Oil Melts (these are absolutely beautiful for silky sexy pins!) and a Big Blue bath bomb to help ease Dan’s aching feet after the big day.
Next up was the home section of Primark which if you haven’t been in there for a while, has been knocking it out of the park for reasonably priced and stylish home accessories! I’ve had my eye on a patchwork style throw in pastel colours for weeks but as I hadn’t decided on a colour scheme for my newly decorated bedroom I held off on buying it. Alas, when I went to buy it that evening it had disappeared and all that was left was a cushion in the same print…you snooze, you lose my friend! Instead I picked up a pretty pink bedcover and pillowcases (which Dan will love, obv) and a cute strokeably soft heart shaped cushion as a token “love” purchase.
With a few quid left on my gift card and the money burning a hole in my pocket, I headed to Superdrug and spent the last of my cash on a few beauty bits including the beautiful MUA Luxe eyeshadow palette in Utopia and a Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Sultry (ooh err)… and I have a few pounds change to spare.
After a couple of hours shopping we headed off to The Hive, the food complex and latest addition to intu Potteries for a bite to eat at Coast 2 Coast – keep an eye out for the review in the next couple of days.
*I was invited along to intu Potteries by their PR company and was provided with the gift card in exchange as part of a gift buying challenge
