As Maria Von Trapp once sang, “lets start at the very beginning, a very good place to start” – this is true in all things Sound of Music, and especially when it comes to makeup. It doesn’t matter what life changing products you use, if your base isn’t “just right” everything else is just going to look wrong. This relies heavily on picking the right foundation. There are a multitude of foundation sins you can commit, heavy and cakey, overly shiny, foundation that separates throughout the day and the one I struggle with the most – foundation that is too dark. I have commited this crime through no fault of my own on many occasion due to the fact that my skin borders on being transparent and it can be difficult at the best of times to find a foundation pale enough for my skintone.
With the extended winter we’ve experienced this year, the lack of sunlight on my skin seems to have only caused my skin to pale even more – which means that the foundations that once matched me perfectly are now too dark. To combat this, I’ve had to call in the big guns in the form of this…
Stargazer White Foundation.
I called for some help on Twitter from all my pale faced beauties for some help with pale foundations. Someone recommended the Illamasqua Skinbase in 01 – White. At £25.00 its a tad out of my price range, but after a bit of a Googling I found this. I paid £4.00 (+ £1 postage) on Blue Banana website and Vampire foundation was mine in 3-5 working days.
This is a god send. On its own, the foundation is quite thick and tacky to the touch and doesn’t provide the highest of coverage, but mixed with Revlon Nearly Naked or colorstay foundation it lightens the shade enough to make it my perfect colour match. I also find it sheers out the foundation slightly and allows my freckles to show through around my forehead and nose (freckles are where the sun has kissed you). Despite how the foundation applies on its own, when mixed it gives quite a fresh look and works well on my oily skin without me having to apply powder throughout the day. I think this will work well mixed with quite a few of the other foundations that I love the feel of, but are far too “you got Tangoe’d” for my fair skin – I’m looking at YOU Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation in “Ivory” (see the inverted ‘are you shitting me?’ commas there?)
I insist that all you pale skinned beauts hotfoot it to Stargazer and pick up a bottle of this for your makeup bags quickly before I buy it all.
(P.S – Did you know that I’m on Bloglovin? I’d really appreciate it if you could drop me a follow over on there – I want to get to a million by my 26th birthday on the 5th May – oh its my birthday, you ask? Yep. Birthday wishlist coming right up…)
