Let’s get this straight – if they ever put an age limit on the social acceptability to wear denim shorts with tights then you will find me at the nearest airport fleeing the country with a suitcase full of cut offs and 120 deniers. They’re my staple wardrobe item of choice and I own several pairs that I rotate throughout my autumn/winter/spring and summer wardrobe because denim sh orts aren’t just for one season, they’re for life. Being the ripe old age of 28 and living in the UK where the sun isn’t quite a regular occurrence, the opaques are required to keep my pasty pins warm and also because my legs aren’t quite denim short material (nor would I want to commit under short bum cleavage!)
The latest shorts to add to my collection are these Simply Be Embroidered Denim Shorts from theLabel Be range. The shorts come in an acid wash finish with bright patches of embroidery and channel a 70’s Woodstock/tribal vibe and lend themselves perfectly to being dressed up with colour, an obligatory flower crown and thing long lost lipsticks from NYC in Blue Rose.
The shorts do come up quite small as has been my experience with a lot of the Label Be pieces. I usually wear an 18 for jeans/shorts so I initially sized up to a 20 to avoid spray on shorts and camel toe…. then I found myself sizing up again to a 22 for a comfortable fit even though you do have a bit of a helping hand thanks to the half elasticated waistband (this will be a god send if you struggle with getting bottoms over your ample backside).
When the sun comes out I go foraging in my wardrobe for my bright and breezy pieces so I made the most of a sunny Saturday afternoon in the park. I paired the Simply Be Embroidered Denim Shorts with a white open shoulder top from New Look which is an airy saviour come the summer months and this lime green kimono style cover up that I picked up at Yours Clothing last year – they don’t have it in stock any more but they do have a number of neon kimono’s that may tickle your fancy.
