Floral Frocks with Closet London Curve

by Charl Pearce

As much as I love getting dressed up when it comes to dresses I tend to lean more towards bodycon or shirt dresses with paisley or geometric prints or with a bit of an edge. It’s rare that you’ll find me wearing ladylike florals unless its a special occassion despite the full skirts and demure shapes being one of my favourite looks on others. Think Taylor Swift circa 2012.

I’ve not really seen much about Closet London but they do have a small collection of plus size pieces in their Curve collection which is mainly made up of tailored pieces which range in prices from £45 to £70. They aren’t particularly fashion forward pieces, but they’re quality wardrobe staples from tailored skater dresses and pleated midi skirts to structured collared tops . Their straight size line does feature quite a few more fashion forward pieces which unfortunately stops at quite a small 16 (I can usually wiggle into large 16 dependent on my pizza consumption that week) and it would be nice to see some key pieces if not all of these to be offered up to the size 26 which the Curve range offers.

One dress that did catch my eye from the Closet London Curve collection was this midi length floral dress with mid length sleeves and v cut back and zipper fastening. The dress features a high cut neckline, a fitted bodice and a box pleated skirt which flares out from the waist and falls beautifully at shin height. I love the bold floral print in striking shades of red and green and the midi length and V cut back of the dress gives a flash of skin as a contrast to the print. I paired the dress with nude peep toe heels but I think this dress would look amazing worn with red heels to compliment the colours. The fit is pretty true to size. I ordered a 20 after being concerned after the small 16 skirt that I’d struggle with sizing but I could easily size down to an 18 which is what I would usually buy.

Now I just need an occasion to give it a whirl, I’m planning on taking it on my summer holiday but if anybody has any weddings/christenings where they’re looking for a +1 or to fill the guestlist then give me a call. I give good gifts, am one of the first on (and last off) the dance floor and I love a good finger buffet.
