FASHION || The Throwback Dress

by Charl Pearce

We all have that one dress that we keep in the back of our closet which we pull out every now and then to salvage a dire fashion situation. The Throwback Dress.  Whether you’ve been invited to a last minute night out, your online order hasn’t turned up or the sparkly new dress you bought burst at the seams when you sat down (that has never happened to me, honestly) its good to know there’s an old faithful which still manages to hold its own after the 3millionth time of wearing it.

My throwback dress is a long sleeved, jersey body con dress which I bought from Peacocks about 4 years ago. It’s served me well throughout our time together. It was this dress I wore when I kissed a Werewolf at Halloween, when I stayed out dancing until 3am and when I won my “Social Media Champion” award at the 6 Towns Radio awards night. Even Gemma has worn this dress during our epic Christmas Eve festive celebrations of 2013. It’s done me well but one too many nobbles and spins in the washing machine has left it looking as though it needs some much needed R&R on a coat hanger at the back of my wardrobe (I couldn’t throw it out, we’ve been through too much). Sometimes we need new dresses to refresh our wardrobe and I’m not one to say “nay” to a new dress so when New Look offered to replace my “Throwback Dress” I didn’t say nay.closetblueskaterdressnewlook

Every girl needs an LBD or some monochrome in her closet which is exactly what I had in mind when I picked this Closet Monochrome V Neck Contrast Skater Dress. Paired with more monochrome or a flash of colour (like the hot pink blazer in the photos below) mixing up accessories mean this dress can be worn a multitude of ways. It’s not too short (but short enough to show some leg), the neckline isn’t too low for a V cut and the waist sits at a flattering height. I’m looking forward to taking it on for a spin (and not just because I have too much fun spinning in dresses with kicked out skirts).

Do you have a “throwback dress” which you keep at the back of your wardrobe and saves you on those “I have absolutely nothing to wear” occasions?
