Dressed Down & Distressed

by Charl Pearce

We’ve all had those days where we wish wearing pyjamas to the office or to do the food shop were an option, in fact, you’ll often find women dashing around Tesco in their fleecey PJ’s and slippers like its completely normal. On those days I want to free my legs from the binds of skinny jeans and just let the thighs hang out, especially when the weather is hot. These tribal print cheesecloth trousers from Peacocks are like a 90’s material throw back but are insanely popular at the minute for a relaxed shape of trousers. These have a tie waist and cropped leg and I’m not sure if it’s because I bought a 20 and the sizing is super generous anyway but these are almost MC Hammer size on me. But they’re so damn comfortable. I wore these over a boohoo bikini when I was on holiday but they look equally as “cool” (not that I’ve ever been remotely cool) worn over this ribbed, lace up bodysuit that I picked up in the River Island sale from the RIPlus range. I had to size up to a 22 in the bodysuit because the size 20 was threatening to give me a camel toe/split me in two from the vagina up but I can’t wait to style this with skirts and skinny jeans for a more dressed up look.

What I love about Navabi is that their website brings together classic and trend led from a collection of leading designers. They believe that plus size women shouldn’t struggle to find statement and key pieces and this shines through in the products available on the website. I often tend to gravitate towards a lot of the pieces from Danish brand Zizzi when I’m browsing the Navabi website, a go to label which is focused on trend concious fashionistas. This distressed and acid wash look denim jacket with cream embroidery from Zizzi is the perfect “throw on” casual jacket and is one of two jackets I picked up from the Zizzi brand. I’ll have to admit, I’m not usually a fan of a denim jacket. The last time I wore one was when I was about 14 and I left it in the loos of the local shopping centre in a panic after I bleached the two front bits of my hair with a box kit from Superdrug (evidently in a desperate attempt to look like Geri Halliwell). It was from legendary (not) northern fashion chain Stolen from Ivor and was the sort of style that would now be classed as “on trend” now that the 90’s style has got 360, but this distressed number from Navabi is a stretch denim and doesn’t make me feel as bulky and shapeless as the throwback boxy styles.

Last but not least this tan faux leather embossed backpack from Primark for those days when you need to carry everything bar the kitchen sink when you’re out and about but don’t want to have to suffer with the one shoulder ache. Admittedly, I feel a little bit like Kevin McAllister in Home Alone when I wear this and I’m not sure exactly how many times I’ll use it but for £9 it didn’t break the bank and will come in handy if only for hand luggage.
