Check on It

Keeping to the Autumn colours and wrapping up warm theme, I wanted to share with you this cosy outfit from the plus size clothing company Marisota. As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m loving oversized and cosy fitting clothes for the change in weather and this over sized check waterfall coat from Elvi* reminds me of a blanket you’d find in your grandmas house, but made into a coat. No, not musty and moth eaten, comfortable, warm and the just the ticket for a more structured take on the popular cape trend.

The large check print and black piping to the coat gives it a contemporary edge but the inside fleece lining is perfect for cold winter mornings and dark nights. I have to admit, at first there seemed to be too much fabric for me to deal with, the over sized fit of it along with the waterfall front can leave you looking a little bit like you’re drowning in a swamp of check fabric.

If the excess fabric and adjusting throughout the day isn’t really you thing, size down or consider adopting the belt over coat look to keep the coat closed (there’s no buttons!) and to add a bit of shape to your silhouette.

I paired the coat with this Ox Blood cut out shoulder skater dress* in a size 20 which despite the stretchy ponteĀ fabric does come up quite short. HOWEVER, I often find that because I have quite a long torso and a big ole butt, I do have to size up so as to avoid flashing. I do love these little dresses for the winter as they can be worn a multitude of ways (in fact, I may have a fashion post coming up to talk about exactly that! Keep your eyes peeled). They also provide the perfect foundations to a layered up look.

I feel as though as soon as the seasons change, I come into my fashion groove. I’m not sure whether it’s because the leaves are the same colour as my hair or because I’m a through and through Earth sign but I just feel so much more comfortable when I’m donning opaques, boots and colours from an autumnal palette which seem to lend themselves much more easily to my skin tone.

  • Love the shade of this dress :)
