When the seasons change from “summer” (or the UK’s version of it) into Autumn and then Autumn into Winter I begin dreaming of dark nights in front of the fire watching films like The Holiday and Curly Sue, sipping on hot chocolate with squishy marshmallows and dressing myself in oversized jumpers/scarves/boots.
What I forget to factor into this idealised version of winter is how the weather changes and how this subsequently throws my carefully honed summer skincare routine out of the window. Goodbye summer glow and a sprinkling of freckles, hello dry, dull and dehydrated looking skin.
The shift in weather and the cold means I have to switch up my usual face creams for something more moisturising as my skins turns into sponge and in turn my usual foundations that I use to try and combat my oily T Zone and help me try and maintain a matte complexion start to dry my skin out even more.
I consulted Twitter and the blogs of my favourite skincare gurus and I’m pleased to bring you four of my winter skin saviours which have helped alleviate this transitioning period and stop myself from having to go through those couple of weeks where I look in the mirror I’m like “OHMYGOD MY SKIN LOOKS VILE I HATE MY LIFE”
N Spa Deep Hydrating Facial Oil – “Using facial oil on already oily skin? Are you mental?” I may have declared in the past, but since using this NSpa Deep Hydrating Facial Oil I’m a complete convert. I use this before bed when my skin is feeling particularly dehydrated and needs a serious kiss of moisture.
Nourish Balance Nutritious Peptide Serum – I read on someones timeline that they were getting rid of the Holy Grail Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair in favour of this. After my first usage I noticed an immediate change in the overall look and feel of my skin. My complexion is brighter, my skin smoother and it sits well under my chosen night moisturiser without feeling too greasy.
Hydraluron – Although Hydraluron didn’t have any immediate effect on my skin after a week or so’s usage my skin was more hydrated and visibly plumped (we’re not talking that pillow face look like The Bride of Wildenstein). This gel absorbs instantly and is the perfect combination with my daily moisturised to provide a base for make up.
Kiehls Multi Corrective Cream – This super rich and fabulously moisturising cream from Kiehls is my new skincare crush. I use this mornings and night (if I’m not needing the Facial Oil) and it leaves my skin hydrated and smooth without being too greasy. A moisturised which delivers the right amount of moisture for day and night means I’m not cluttering up my dressing table with too many lotions and potions so this is perfect.
What products do you like to use to treat your skin throughout the winter months?
