3 Spring Fashion Trends & Where to Shop Them

by Charl Pearce

One day you’re strolling the stores on a Saturday afternoon or a late night post work dash to return something you ordered on a whim whilst drunk and the roll neck knits, over size coats and 3 metre long scarves of winter have been replaced by pastel colours and ripped denim jeans.  The seasons are a changing and even though Coliseum Shopping Park was still a little on the nippy side when Terri and I visited last weekend (I was wearing my big coat) it was the perfect Sunday afternoon to seek solace in the shops and scope out the latest trends for Spring 2017.

What are my three top trends for the coming months?

The Pinstripe Blouse

The blue pinstripe shirt is everywhere.  In denim or baby blue, these button down and collared tailored styles have a relaxed shape but can be worn on or off duty.  Dressed down tucked into ripped boyfriend jeans and flats or styled up with skinny jeans and a classic camel mac or this years popular biker style jacket, this shirt is a must have addition to your wardrobe.  Too “workwear” for you?  River Island have a lace detailed take on the trend and Red Herring at Debenhams have well and truly jumped on the sassy applique wagon with this so adorable it hurts punk and lipstick design.  What I love about this trend is how it manages to add a flash of colour to a basic outfit while still retaining its status as a neutral.

Awesome Athleisure

Bringing the worlds of style and sports together, Athleisure was big at the end of 2016 and is only going to influence fashion more in 2017.   Bringing style and sports together, Athleisure merges sport, urban and fashion and is indicative of a rise in comfort and lounge dressing.  Leggings, hoodies and trainers are no longer only acceptable in a gym or “hangover Sunday” environment, they’ve been given a fashion overhaul with slogan sweaters and camo jackets combining fashion and comfort for a functional twist.

Statement Accessories

I’m a sucker for accessories (just ask anybody who’s ever had the misfortune of witnessing my lack of wardrobe organisation) and to my delight the shops are jam packed with animal print detailing, embroidered boots and chunky western buckles on shoes and belts to fill my home and shoe rack with even more 8am “which shoes should I wear” choices.  Block heeled leopard print sandals from River Island are making me wish for warmer weather and a pedicure and cat eye sunglasses equal make up free days.
